🌟 Anne Drysdale and Caroline Newcomb
Anne Drysdale and Caroline Newcomb formed a successful pastoral partnership in the Geelong district and acquired the Coriyule run near present-day Drysdale. In 1849 they commissioned the substantial house that survives there, overlooking Corio Bay. Drysdale had already farmed in Scotland before migrating, bringing experience to an enterprise that challenged conventional assumptions about women’s work. The township took her name. Coriyule records both women’s involvement in managing livestock, property and a business partnership in the colony’s early pastoral economy.
